A road improvement project in Dubai will reduce peak hour traffic time on Al Meydan Street from eight minutes to one. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said the project is now 85 per cent complete.

The project extends from the intersection of Al Khail Street to the Cycling Club. The works involved expanding the capacity of the street from two to three lanes; replace the Al Meydan roundabout with a T-shaped surface intersection; and transform the Al Quoz roundabout into a widened street along the route.

“Congestion at intersections is expected to decrease significantly (almost 95 percent),” said Hamad Al Shehhi, director of the RTA’s Roads, Traffic and Highways Agency.

“The next phase of the Al Meydan Street Improvement Project includes modifying the entrances and exits of Mohammed Bin Rashid City to improve traffic flow in the area. The entire project is expected to be completed early in the second quarter of 2024.”

The RTA has inaugurated a bicycle lane tunnel in the Al Meydan area, with capacity for approximately 800 bicycles per hour. The transformation of the surface crossing of the cycle path into a tunnel has reduced waiting times for cyclists.
