RTA inaugurates two new cycle tracks in Dubai

The total length of cycle tracks will increase from 544 km at the end of 2023 to 1,000 km in 2030.

Dubai Roads and Transportation Authority (RTA) has inaugurated cycle lanes in Al Khawaneej and Mushrif with an extension of 7 kilometers to connect with the existing lanes in the two districts, which already cover 32 kilometers. Consequently, this extension brings the total length of bike lanes in these residential communities to 39 km. The opening of the new slopes coincides with the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, a period when residents and visitors enjoy physical activities, including cycling.

His Excellency Mattar Al TayerGeneral Director and Chairman of the Executive Board of RTA, commented:

“The project has been carried out under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, to transform Dubai into a bicycle-friendly city. Achieving this goal requires providing suitable alternatives to encouraging residents to cycle and is also aligned with the Dubai Urban Plan 2040, which aims to position Dubai as the best liveable city in the world.

“The expansion of cycle tracks is part of the RTA Master Plan to build dedicated walking and cycling tracks in Dubai to encourage residents and visitors to participate in sports and leisure activities, thereby improving the quality of life. . “It also translates RTA’s commitment to improving interconnectivity between existing bike lanes in residential areas and key neighborhood attractions.”

2 new cycling tracks

“The first bicycle track starts at Quran Park, located on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and continues to intersect with Al Khawaneej Street. It then crosses the street via the combined pedestrian and cyclist bridge on Al Khawaneej Street to join with the existing cycle track. The second track starts at Mushrif Park, near Crocodile Park, and extends to intersect Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street. From there, it runs north along the street until crossing Al Khawaneej Street through the pedestrian street and “Cyclists cross Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street to connect with the cycle track at Al Khawaneej. With the addition of the two new tracks, the total length of cycle tracks in Al Khawaneej and Mushrif now extends to 39 km,” Al Tayer explained.

The RTA has asked all users of cycle tracks to comply with the speed limits established throughout the emirate, which is 30 km/h on tracks dedicated to amateur sports cyclists and on tracks shared with vehicles on roads safe. A limit of 20 km/h is established on roads designated or shared with pedestrians within urban areas. Additionally, on training tracks throughout the city, cyclists can ride at unlimited speeds.
