As the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues, a UAE airlift is helping to transport vital medical supplies, food kits and other relief items to Palestinians affected by the war in the Gaza Strip. A flight containing the fifth shipment from Dubai’s International Humanitarian City (IHC) landed in Al Arish, Egypt, on Monday, carrying more than 9 tonnes of humanitarian aid from the World Health Organization stockpile.

Khaleej Times was on board the seven-hour flight that transported the vital supplies to Al Arish, which is about 50 kilometers from the Rafah crossing on the Gaza border.
Supplies will be stored in a warehouse. Now that aid is slowly arriving in Gaza, these essential items will soon reach the Palestinians.
So far, the Dubai Airlift has helped transport 46.15 tonnes of aid on five C130 military cargo flights. These supplies will benefit more than 65,000 Palestinians.

At the Al Arish military base, hundreds of Egyptian Red Crescent volunteers work tirelessly to unload essential items arriving by plane from all over the world. After separating the materials, they load them onto trucks bound for Gaza.

Volunteers Khaleej Times spoke to expressed gratitude to the United Arab Emirates, which was among the first to respond to the crisis. They said all materials would be transported to Gaza, as long as the border remains open.

“Only about 20 trucks can cross the border daily,” he said.

The United Nations estimates that about 100 trucks a day are needed to meet the needs of Gazans, whose humanitarian situation has been described as “catastrophic.”
