First look: Shees Rest Area opened just in time for the UAE winter season; It has shops selling fruits, plants, rugs and more
Now you can view the rugged Hajar Mountains in all their splendor while sipping karak tea or savoring a boiled ear of corn. Located in the shadow of the mountains, Shees Rest Area opened just as the winter season begins in the UAE.
Located just 1 km from Shees Park, which features an artificial waterfall, the rest area was inaugurated over the weekend by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
When Khaleej Times When I visited the destination, there was a chill in the air as Khor Fakkan was among several areas that witnessed heavy rain. It has 58 stores selling fresh fruits and vegetables, houseplants, rugs, perfumes and camping supplies; and restaurants and cafes.
Plant shops sell the famous potted flowers for Dh1 and customers were seen buying boxes full of colorful greens.
Rug stores have products with intricate designs and colorful patterns lined up on stands that run from floor to ceiling.
Next were fruits and vegetables grown in the UAE that are sold at wholesale prices. We received boxes of mangoes, oranges, papayas, guavas, apples and watermelons, all for 90 dirhams.
In addition, shops sell packets of fresh fruits cut into small portions for 10 dirhams and ears of corn for 5 dirhams.
Drinking a hot drink was an affordable endeavor as a cup of karak tea was sold for AED 1. We also found a store that sold camping equipment.
A 430 m2 open-air theater featured impressive greenery while a 24 m2 projector played a film.
