If you are among the thousands of motorists who drive between Dubai and Sharjah on Al Ittihad Road every day, remember to slow down and obey the new speed limit to avoid hefty fines that could reach up to Dh3,000.
Starting Nov. 20, the speed limit on much of the highway will be reduced from 100 to 80 kilometers per hour, authorities announced Tuesday.
Drivers are urged to pay attention to the new traffic signs that will be placed on the stretch where the regulation applies: from the Sharjah-Dubai border on Al Ittihad Road to Al Garhoud Bridge.
Speeding is a serious traffic offense in the UAE punishable by fines ranging from Dh300 to Dh3,000, depending on how much the driver exceeded the limit. The penalty also includes black points and, in some cases, confiscation of the vehicle.
