A Pakistani national and his daughter died in a fire in Sharjah on Thursday, a senior official said.
Faisal Tirmizi, Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE, said Imran Khan and his family were living in Sharjah when the unfortunate incident occurred. Khan’s wife and his two children were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) at Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah.
“An unfortunate accident occurred at the house of a Sharjah-based Pakistani on the morning of January 25, 2024. Unfortunately, the head of the family, Imran Khan, and his only daughter died in the incident while his wife and two other children are in the ICU of Al Qassimi Hospital Sharjah,” the ambassador told the Khaleej Times Thursday.

The incident took place in the Muweileh area of Sharjah in the early hours of the morning and the death was due to asphyxiation.
There are currently 1.7 million Pakistani citizens living and working in the UAE. The South Asian diaspora is the second largest community in the United Arab Emirates and a major contributor to the local economy, as well as a major contributor to their country’s remittances.
Faisal Tirmizi said that the Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai is in touch with the company where the late Imran Khan worked. “The Consulate is guaranteeing the maximum support and necessary assistance to the families of the victims in this time of great trial and pain,” he said.
