It’s a prestigious moment for Amin Sammakieh, Labanese-British artist and founder of Plan A Creative, who participated in the prestigious Sharjah Light Festival. For years, he eagerly anticipated this opportunity to showcase his creativity on a grand scale.

Sammakieh has left his mark on several monuments in the region, bringing his expertise to lighting buildings with captivating content. Having previously participated in light festivals in Russia and Japan, she expressed her deep honor to be part of this renowned event. “It is an honor to be here at the festival. “I have been following the festival closely for years and now I can finally illuminate one of the most attractive monuments in Sharjah,” Sammakieh said.

360 degree lighting

At the festival, he illuminated the Al Noor Mosque, located on Al Majaz Corniche. The artist found the task challenging and rewarding, as he worked on all four facades of the mosque, creating 360-degree immersive lighting. “One of the highlights of the art was the incorporation of reflections into the metal structure of the water, adding a unique dimension to the visual spectacle,” Sammakieh said.

Hundreds of colors

Describing his art form as a visual marvel and a perfect canvas, Sammakieh said each facade of the structure is illuminated with hundreds of changing colors that create a fascinating kaleidoscope effect. The animation, featuring beautiful arabesque patterns, enhances the beauty of the mosque, making it a stunning sight for viewers.

Sammakieh said the front of the mosque is the most captivating, while appreciating the angular corners that provide a unique perspective from the sides.

A magical touch to the ancient monument.

Stefan Ihmig, who is participating for the second time, stated that the festival is one of the best in the world. He has brought a magical touch to Al Dhaid Fort with his 3D projection mapping show, ‘Echoes of Al Dhaid’, and to the Sharjah Police Headquarters.

Despite not physically visiting the sites, Ihmig’s team captured hundreds of photographs to meticulously map the dimensions, colors and elements of both the fort and the Sharjah Police Headquarters. “The most challenging task was not visiting the place and perfectly observing the monuments present. But we made sure not to lose even a millimeter of the structures,” Ihmig said.

‘It took 6 months to illuminate the monuments’

We worked for almost six months on the monuments, Ihmig said, mentioning another challenge we faced in illuminating expansive structures like the old fort and police headquarters. “Dhaid’s fort, which initially sported a single colour, was transformed into a dazzling display of hundreds of vibrant hues. It seems so magical,” Ihmig said.

“The drone show adds an extra layer of appeal to my work. It matches the theme perfectly and gives the audience a wide screen to view the show,” Ihmig said.
