UAE: Most talented people think they can’t be leaders, says Toastmasters International speaker – News

More than 450 people will attend the Toastmasters International event in Sharjah on February 25 to develop their leadership skills.

Keynote speakers will include Manoj Vasudevan, leadership preparation expert, author and coach; and Ahmad Haffar, the man behind Voice of Dubai.

Vasudevan was world public speaking champion in 2017, while Haffar, 27, was recognized as the “most impactful young innovator” in 2023.

Vasudevan believes that the world needs more leaders, especially talented people who need to step up and take on leadership roles. “The problem with most talented people is that they don’t believe they can be leaders. And that creates a vacuum in leadership around the world,” he stated.

“The critical component of leadership is the ability to communicate. Another critical component that I never realized until I joined Toastmasters is that what you learn here is how to influence without authority,” said Vasudevan, who would speak on the topic of how to master public speaking and presentation in less time.

He added that the ability to connect, communicate, build a network, lead and influence are the five key skills that people must master; Otherwise, they will not reach their true potential.

Toastmasters has a network of more than 364,000 members in more than 16,200 clubs in 145 countries. Of the 130 districts worldwide, Toastmasters clubs in the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon belong to District 127, which has more than 3,000 members.

Another defining element of Toastmasters is focusing on the topic by bringing together like-minded people. Toastmasters also offers the opportunity to meet and connect with new people and develop many interpersonal skills.

“This is the age of AI and we must remain relevant. And one way to stay relevant is to learn about the topics of empathy, connection, and people. These are the skills you will need in the future. And here is an organization that you can potentially participate in to develop and benefit in your career, business and life,” she added.

Toastmaster clubs are experimental grounds where speakers can test their communication skills and be evaluated. These meetings imprint the speaking ability in a person and bring out the leadership qualities, transforming the common man into an effective speaker.

The UAE event will take place from 8.30am to 1pm at Safari Mall, Sharjah.
