The National SDG Committee adopts the National Data Action Plan to achieve the UN goals by 2030

The UAE National SDG Committee held the first meeting of 2024, as part of the “SDGs in Action Forum” at the World Government Summit, recently held in Dubai.
Abdulla Nasser Lootah, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Exchange of Experiences, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee on the Sustainable Development Goals, emphasized the importance of collaboration between all government agencies and intensifying national efforts to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs), and working to support partnerships to address the UAE’s sustainable development agenda.
The meeting was chaired by Hanan Mansour Ahli, Director General of the Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics (FCSC), who plays the role of secretary of the National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals. Ahli appreciated the efforts of the committee members to activate various national and international projects and initiatives, which contribute to a positive impact and the construction of a sustainable future for the next generations.

The Committee also adopted the UAE National Data Action Plan for the Sustainable Development Goals, which aims to measure the progress made in data analysis at the national level and ensure its accuracy.

“Recent data shows that progress towards the sustainable development goals is midway and remains incomplete. Countries must intensify their efforts to improve the availability of data on the 17 sustainable development goals, which aim to ensure a better and more sustainable future for all. “These goals are designed to address the global challenges we face.”

Mohammed Hassan, executive director of the statistics and data science sector at the FCSC, He highlighted the importance of the statistics and data sector in knowledge sharing, which contributes to an important economic role equivalent to that of oil. This change is attributed to the utilization of technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital technology, which contribute significantly to shaping future economies. The data revolution is considered essential to achieve strategic objectives and promote comprehensive sustainable development plans on a local, regional and global scale.
He also stressed that big data serves as a fundamental cornerstone to maximize the potential of artificial intelligence. It plays a crucial role in empowering this cutting-edge technology to fulfill one of its most critical functions: forecasting. This process is invaluable in data-driven strategic planning initiatives.
It is worth noting that the National SDG Committee was established to execute the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals at the national level. Its objectives include aligning the UAE’s priorities with those of the United Nations, as well as facilitating the exchange of experiences between local and international stakeholders and partners. Its objective is to expand the group of active participants in the implementation of the United Nations’ agenda for the SDGs.
