Non-electric scooters and folding bicycles without batteries are permitted and can be placed in the designated luggage space inside Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram trains, the Roads and Transport Authority clarified on Friday.

On Friday morning, electric scooter users were caught completely off guard after being informed that electric scooters are no longer allowed inside the Dubai Metro and Tram starting March 1. Many had no choice but to park their electric scooters outside Metro stations. , while others decided to return home.

RTA tweeted the decision on Thursday (February 29) evening: “To ensure your safety and that of others, the use of electric scooters within Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram will be prohibited from Friday, March 1 “. RTA also used the hashtag ‘Your safety our priority’.

In a statement sent to Khaleej Times On Friday, the RTA reiterated: “Considering the safety of Dubai Metro and Tram passengers, the RTA has banned the transportation of electric scooters and battery-powered micromobility devices on board the Dubai Metro and Tram. due to its potential to catch fire. until further notice while reviewing safety regulations.”
