Yahsat, e& UAE to expand satellite connectivity to standard smartphones

Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), the UAE’s leading satellite solutions provider, and e& UAE signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
According to the MoU, e& United Arab Emirates will become the first telecom operator to partner with Yahsat under its Direct-to-Device (D2D) strategy.
The collaboration includes the exploration of various initiatives and projects related to Yahsat D2D ecosystem planned to enable satellite voice, text and data connectivity for standard smartphones. Through this association, e& United Arab Emirates and Yahsat will work together on a variety of innovative projects aimed at revolutionizing satellite connectivity.

“We are delighted to announce our MoU with e& UAE, a leading global telecommunications operator, as the first of many agreements we hope to reach with key industry players under our D2D strategy. “We are discussing many areas in which we intend to collaborate, such as the development of the ecosystem of our recently launched D2D strategy, Project SKY.”

The partnership will see the two companies join forces in Yahsat planned D2D low Earth orbit (LEO) system. This system is designed to provide seamless connectivity, including voice, text and data, for standard smartphones. This technology will offer unprecedented levels of connectivity and accessibility for users around the world.
Collaboration is the last step in implementation Yahsat D2D strategy, which aims to provide standard smartphones and Internet of Things (IoT) devices with advanced satellite capabilities within an ecosystem of services and applications that can be accessed from anywhere in the world.
