President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has enacted a law regulating correctional and rehabilitation centers in Abu Dhabi, in his capacity as ruler of Abu Dhabi.
The law outlines the general policies of correctional and rehabilitation centers in Abu Dhabi, ensuring the protection of prisoners’ rights and the provision of appropriate social and cultural rehabilitation.
According to the law, Abu Dhabi’s punitive and correctional facilities will be renamed correctional and rehabilitation centres.
Under the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, the functions and responsibilities of correctional and rehabilitation centers include receiving inmates, identifying appropriate duty of care, and informing inmates of their responsibilities and expected behavior.
The functions of the centers also include the provision of health and social care services to prisoners, education and vocational training opportunities, and the implementation of rehabilitation programs to reintegrate prisoners as effective members of the community.
The responsibilities of correctional and rehabilitation centers further encompass upskilling staff in accordance with international best practices, enabling them to achieve their goals of rehabilitating inmates while ensuring effective economic management across their rehabilitation ecosystem. in the emirate.
