Abu Dhabi’s cultural community mourns the loss of Sheikha Mohamed Al Mehairi, a well-known figure in the city’s cultural scene, who passed away on Wednesday night. She was buried on Thursday after the Dhuhr prayer.
Al Mehairi served as Director of the Library Management Department of the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism for several years. His tenure was marked by a strong commitment to promoting literacy and fostering a love of reading in the community, DCT noted.
In addition to her role in managing the library, Al Mehairi was also a founding member and ambassador of the Emirati Board of Books for Young Readers. Her dedication played a pivotal role in the success of various initiatives aimed at nurturing young minds and inculcating a passion for literature.

Reflecting on his legacy, the Department of Library Management described Al Mehairi “as a generous soul, known for his unwavering dedication and positive influence within the library and the broader community.”
“Sheikha’s impact on Maktaba (Department of Library Management) and the wider community will endure, leaving behind a legacy of knowledge and kindness that will continue to inspire us all.
“His fond memory and inspiring legacy will remain firmly rooted in our hearts. We do not say goodbye… (We) are committed to continuing (his) legacy by upholding the values he embodied,” Maktaba added.
