Sharjah denies false claims about changes in azan or call to prayer – News

Sharjah authorities have denied rumors circulating online that changes have been made to the azan (call to prayer) in the emirate.

The Sharjah Government Media Office has issued a strong statement urging all people to prioritize accuracy and credibility when sharing information. Community members are encouraged to verify sources and avoid spreading rumors. Authorities said recent claims about adding a phrase to the call to prayer in Sharjah are false and go against the emirate’s religious values.

The statement added that Sharjah remains steadfast in its commitment to religious principles, considering them top priorities that cannot be compromised. The authorities reiterated the importance of respect, peaceful coexistence and tolerance towards different religions and sects within society.

According to article 52 of Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021, whoever uses the Internet to publish, disseminate or disseminate false news, rumors or misleading information contrary to that published by official sources, may be punished with a prison sentence of at least one year. year and a fine of 100,000 dirhams.

In the event that the publication of false news or rumors agitates public opinion against state authorities or occurs in times of pandemic, crisis or disaster, the offender could be imprisoned for at least two years and fined 200,000 dirhams.
