Can both parents in Dubai sponsor and insure their children under separate companies?

In Dubai, it is the obligation of the employer to provide health insurance benefits and bear the healthcare costs of their employees. This is in accordance with Article 13 (8) and (9) of the Employment LawWhat states

“The Employer must:

1. Assume healthcare costs in accordance with current legislation in the UAE.

2. Assume the expenses of insurance, contributions and guarantees determined by current legislation.”

Furthermore, it is also the obligation of the employer to provide health insurance benefits to its employees in Dubai in accordance with Article 10 of the Dubai Health Insurance Law.

However, if an employer does not provide health insurance benefits to an employee’s family members, then it is the obligation of that employee (if on an employer work visa) or his or her sponsor to bear the cost of health insurance. of immediate family members. This is in accordance with Article 11 of the Dubai Health Insurance LawWhat states,

“The sponsor will be obliged to the following:

1. Cover the people sponsored by the same if they have not been covered by the same employer.

2. Assume the cost of such health insurance coverage instead of having beneficiaries assume such costs.

3. Verify that the sponsored persons’ health insurance is valid during the period of residence or visit.

4. Bear the expenses of health services and medical intervention in emergency cases of any of the people sponsored by him if any of them do not have medical insurance in accordance with the provisions of this Law.

5. Give the sponsored people the health insurance card.

6. Provide the health insurance policy at the time of issuance or renewal of residence or visit of the persons sponsored by it.

7. Any other obligations determined by the Authority in accordance with the resolutions it issues in this regard.”

According to the aforementioned legal provisions, it is not mandatory for your wife’s employer to provide health insurance benefits to your child(ren). As a sponsor, it is your obligation to bear the costs of health insurance for your third (unborn) child if your wife’s employer does not provide it. However, if your wife’s employer’s human resources policy allows employees’ children to receive health insurance benefits, then your wife can approach her employer and request that she provide health insurance benefits to her third (unborn) child. ).
