UAE President and Bill Gates discuss ways to improve humanitarian cooperation

Abu Dhabi: The President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, received a phone call on Thursday from Bill Gates, co-chairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. During the call, Gates congratulated Sheikh Mohamed on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr and expressed his wishes for continued prosperity and progress for the UAE and its people.
Sheikh Mohamed and Gates explored ways to strengthen their collaborative efforts to combat infectious diseases such as polio, underscoring the substantial progress made recently in this area. They also emphasized the critical need to improve international efforts aimed at helping vulnerable communities eradicate diseases that hinder their progress, well-being and overall quality of life.
The call also highlighted the historic results of the COP28 climate conference hosted by the UAE last year, which resulted in the historic UAE Consensus, a key milestone in promoting unified climate action and accelerating global efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
The two sides highlighted the importance of modern technology and innovation in improving sustainable solutions to environmental challenges, in addition to preserving natural resources and achieving sustainable development.
The call also discussed the significant efforts made by the United Arab Emirates to address the worsening humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and facilitate the flow of medical and relief aid since the beginning of the crisis.
Sheikh Mohamed thanked Bill Gates for his Eid Al Fitr greetings and reaffirmed the UAE’s dedication to fostering international cooperation and strengthening future initiatives to address diseases that endanger communities.
Gates praised the UAE’s significant humanitarian efforts to support communities around the world and highlighted its profound impact. Furthermore, he praised Sheikh Mohamed for his fundamental contributions to eradicating polio and his efforts to advance global initiatives against the disease, thereby improving the well-being of communities around the world.
