Dubai: Traffic improvements at 14 sites cut travel time in half – News

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed a series of traffic improvements at 14 sites in Dubai in 2023. These measures have reduced travel time by up to 50 percent in certain locations and improved the capacity of vehicles on numerous roads by up to 50 percent. 25 percent.

Abdulla Yousef Al Ali, CEO of RTA’s Roads and Traffic Agency, said: “Delivering these improvements is a testament to RTA’s commitment to executing the directives of our leaders. Our efforts are aimed at adapting to the demographic and urban expansion of the emirate through continuous advances in the infrastructure sector. “Our goal is to expand the capacity of the road network and align it with the sustainable growth of Dubai, which would ultimately ensure the happiness and well-being of the population and make Dubai the best city to live in.”

He added: “Improvements will continue throughout 2024. The plan includes the implementation of multiple projects aimed at improving traffic flow at 31 sites in the emirate. The main areas include Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Al Awir Street, Abu Baker Al Siddique Street, Al Rebat Street, Al Khail Road and Al Meydan Street.”

Major traffic improvements carried out in 2023 included the improvement of the right free exit from Al Asayel Street to Financial Center Street towards Al Khail Road. This modification doubled the capacity of the exit from one lane to two, improved traffic flow and reduced travel time from the Business Bay area to Financial Center Street from 5 minutes to just 1 minute.

Additionally, substantial improvements to Al Fay Street added several lanes leading to the roundabout and utilized the existing bridge to relieve congestion and improve traffic flow. The result was to halve the travel time to enter and exit the Dubai Production District and Dubai Sports City District by 50 percent.

In 2023, traffic works undertaken by the RTA included the introduction of a free exit from Al-Saba Street to Garn Al Sabkha Street towards Dubai Marina. This eased congestion and reduced travel times in the surrounding area by approximately 60 percent.

Additionally, a traffic solution was implemented at the intersection of Umm Suqeim and Al-Asayel Streets by widening the right free exit from Al Asayel Street to Umm Suqeim Street and creating a dedicated U-turn on Umm Suqeim Street for traffic. incoming from Al Khail. Path. These measures reduced the travel time leaving Al Barsha towards Umm Suqeim Street en route to Al Khail Road, from 15 minutes to just 5 minutes.

The measures taken also included widening the right exit from Al Rebat Street to Business Bay Crossing from one lane to three and equipping it with traffic signals to increase capacity and improve the level of traffic service in that direction. These measures have eliminated vehicle queues on Al Rebat Street, minimized overlapping traffic and raised road safety standards.

Additionally, the Emirates Road exit towards the Maliha Street junction (Exit 71) was widened from two lanes to three. This improvement increased the capacity of the exit from 4,000 vehicles per hour to 6,000 per hour, which improved traffic flow in the area.
