The presidents of the United Arab Emirates and Cyprus discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza; Maritime corridor initiative for the delivery of aid.

Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan spoke by telephone on Monday with His Excellency Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus, to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries and review the latest developments in the region, in particular the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
The call addressed the initiative recently announced by the United Arab Emirates, Cyprus, the European Commission, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States regarding the activation of a maritime corridor to deliver aid that it is urgently needed to address the escalation. The plan builds on Cyprus’ recently announced Amalthea Initiative, which outlines a mechanism to safely transport aid by sea from Cyprus to Gaza and forms a key part of these latest joint efforts to establish a maritime aid delivery corridor. Participating nations will work in collaboration with Sigrid Kaag, United Nations Senior Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction in Gaza, who oversees the facilitation, coordination and verification of the flow of aid to Gaza.
Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the critical need for the immediate establishment of direct humanitarian corridors (by land, sea and air) to ensure the smooth delivery of aid to Gaza. He stressed the paramount importance of implementing protective measures for these corridors and allowing humanitarian organizations to carry out their work effectively, thereby preventing any further increase in suffering for Gaza residents.
Sheikh Mohamed also highlighted the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts in support of a comprehensive and fair peace process aimed at ensuring stability in the region on the basis of the two-state solution, noting that the UAE supports all efforts and initiatives towards this result.
