The rapid response came under the directives of the President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent.

The relief program was launched urgently, ensuring the supply and delivery of essential supplies such as shelter, food and medical care.

The UAE’s humanitarian response exemplifies its commitment to supporting friendly countries in times of crisis.

The United Arab Emirates acted quickly to support humanitarian relief efforts in Libya, where flooding and heavy rain caused a humanitarian tragedy.

Thousands of people have died or gone missing and many regions have suffered extensive damage. The UAE showed high professionalism in planning, execution and assistance to those in need.

Within hours of the storm, President Sheikh Mohamed ordered urgent aid and sent search and rescue (SAR) teams to Libya, demonstrating solidarity with the Libyan people in the wake of the disaster.

Following the directives of President Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, he ordered the ERC to provide urgent humanitarian aid to flood victims in Libya.

Shelter, food, health supplies and other crucial needs were sent to areas that suffered the worst devastation as part of a relief program launched by ERC to help those affected.

On September 12, the UAE SAR team arrived at Benina Airport in Libya and immediately began its mission to help deal with the aftermath of the storm.

Among the resources sent by the UAE to the disaster areas were four helicopters, rescue vehicles, boats, thermal and sonar equipment and power generators. The Emirati SAR teams consisted of 96 people who used these tools to find the injured and save lives.
