The Crown Prince of Dubai outlines the next phase of the UAE’s space journey after chairing a meeting of the MBRSC board of directors
The United Arab Emirates continues to break barriers when it comes to space exploration, even after Emirati astronaut Sultan AlNeyadi returned home after spending six months on the International Space Station (ISS).
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, chaired a meeting of the board of directors of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC) on Monday, where a plan was drawn up for the future of space projects in the country.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed said the next phase of the UAE’s journey would see “innovative Emirati space companies”.
“Our goal is to be a major player in shaping the future of space exploration,” he added.
There are a number of ambitious initiatives in the pipeline, which will cement the UAE’s place as a major player in the global space industry.
The Crown Prince highlighted the following milestones to be achieved in this sector:
1. UAE astronauts Mohammed Al Mulla and Nora Al Matroushi are set to blast off into space in 2024 on major missions.
2. Also in 2024 MBZ-Sat will be launched. This will be “the Arab world’s most advanced satellite to date.”
3. The Rashid Rover 2 project will also continue, the objective of which is to take a vehicle to the Moon, as its predecessor did.
“Our journey has just begun and the best is yet to come,” Sheikh Hamdan concluded.
