Share of clean energy installed capacity reached 15.6% of UAE’s total energy mix in 2022

Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, has said that the UAE’s share of installed clean energy capacity reached 15.6 per cent of the country’s total energy mix in 2022, with the set target of raising it to 30 per cent by 2030, in line with the Strategy UAE Energy 2050 updated.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 2023 edition of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC 2023), the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure noted that the UAE ranked second globally in the Energy Transition pillar of the Green Future Index 2023a testament to its major contributions and growth rate in clean and renewable energy generation.

It measures the degree to which their economies are pivoting towards clean energy, industry, agriculture and society through investment in renewable energy, innovation and green policies.

Over the past 15 years, the UAE has invested more than $40 billion in clean energy projects, Al Mazrouei He went on to say, adding that this figure is likely to range between $150 and $200 billion until 2030 to ensure that the UAE’s energy demand is met and the sustainable growth of the country’s economy is maintained. This, he explained, will drive the UAE’s shift towards power generation through more sustainable solutions, while preserving energy security and the stability of the power grid.

On the role of the UAE energy sector during the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP28), the minister said the sector is playing a critical role in ensuring the success of the global event, which the United Arab Emirates will host later this year.

He underlined the country’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving net zero targets by 2050, a goal that requires the participation of the energy sector as a key player to ensure that commitment is met.
