dnata celebrates a sky full of achievements and innovation on UAE Civil Aviation Day

DNA was founded in January 1959 with only two employees and operated solely as a travel agency based in the United Arab Emirates. Since then, it has steadily expanded its operations and services, growing to become instrumental in the success and growth of Dubai and the country’s aviation industry.

dnata’s milestones over the past 64 years include:

  • He played a pivotal role in the design of the original Dubai International Airport (DXB) in the 1960s and its three terminals.
  • The first plane stop at the newly opened DXB terminal in 1971
  • The launch of marhaba and its renowned airport hospitality services in 1991
  • Its expansion to Dubai World Central (DWC) airport in 2010
  • The opening of a new export customer service center and Integrated Cargo Control Center at Dubai Airport Free Zone (DAFZA) in 2016
  • The completion of the first “green” transformation of a flydubai aircraft at DXB in the United Arab Emirates in 2019, an achievement made possible by continued investments in zero-emission electric ramp ground support equipment.
  • dnata handles more than 220,000 bags every day in Dubai

Reflecting the growth of Dubai, the DNA The group currently employs over 23,000 people and provides world-class services to over 190 passenger and cargo airlines in the UAE. Every day, the company’s customer-oriented professionals help more than 86,000 passengers, handle more than 220,000 bags, manage 580 safe aircraft stops and move 1,600 tons of cargo in Dubai. Additionally, marhaba’s best-in-class Lounge and Meet & Greet services ensure a smooth and memorable airport trip for more than 8,000 passengers per day. dnata also provides more than 25,000 meals each day through its joint venture Alpha Flight Services in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah.

In addition to its success in the UAE, dnata took a major leap forward with the launch of its first overseas operation, Gerry’s dnata in Pakistan in 1993. This strategic move paved the way for the expansion of DNA’s global operations through acquisitions, partnerships and organic growth over the past three decades. DNA has become a leading global player in the aviation, catering, retail and travel industries currently providing safe and quality services in more than 30 countries on six continents.
