Dubai Municipality has announced the launch of the UAE’s first accredited vocational academy aimed at instilling best practices applied in municipal work.

The academy, accredited by the National Qualifications Center of the Ministry of Education and the Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority, is designed for university graduates and municipal employees. In collaboration with local and international educational centers and institutions, the academy will offer specialized professional certificates accredited worldwide.

In addition, the academy will offer vocational guidance programs for graduating university students, participate in collaborative research and studies with universities and research centers, conduct municipal work training programs for local, regional and global municipal employees, and organize forums specialized in the field. .

Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said the launch of the vocational academy underlines the Municipality’s commitment to attracting talent, fostering the skills of its workforce and university graduates, and equipping participants with qualifications in various fields and specializations within the Municipality. He highlighted the Municipality’s interest in fostering a culture of sustainable innovation and facilitating the advancement of cutting-edge solutions to achieve its ambitious objectives. This helps to further boost Dubai’s competitiveness and enhance its position as one of the best cities in the world to live and work, he noted.

Al Hajri stated: “Dubai Municipality has made notable progress in preparing and training a qualified workforce to drive various municipal jobs. The newly established vocational academy will further support the Municipality’s efforts by attracting top talent, honing their skills, improving employee performance and enabling them to skillfully respond to rapid changes in the most efficient and future-oriented manner. The programs offered by the academy will cover various specializations and vital operations managed by Dubai Municipality, such as licensing and monitoring of construction activities, digital transformation and geographic information systems, data analytics, strategy and innovation, health management and safety, environmental sustainability, preservation of urban heritage and antiques, as well as sanitation, agriculture and irrigation equipment.

Professional certification programs will be offered in a variety of disciplines, including mechatronics in sanitation, irrigation technologies, occupational health and safety management, as well as manuscript restoration and maintenance.

Dubai Municipality provides participants with the flexibility to choose between in-person and virtual options for selected courses, offering a wide range of programs at the vocational academy. Participants have the option to attend courses at different schools, colleges and universities, the main campus of the vocational academy, Dubai Municipality institutions or at the facilities of its partners, suppliers and contractors. Additionally, they can also opt for virtual participation through the Learning Experiences Platform (LXP).
