Crossing at undesignated places can cause serious accidents, resulting in injury or even death.
Pedestrians and motorists in the UAE have the responsibility to follow traffic rules at road junctions to maintain safety and prevent accidents.
The Umm Al Quwain police have launched an awareness campaign as part of their operational plan for 2023. Colonel Mohamed Obaid Youssef Mohamed bin Hadiba said the campaign is part of the strategy of the UAE Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with the department , to raise awareness about traffic rules and laws.
The campaign aims to educate motorists on how to give the right of way to pedestrians and also raise awareness among pedestrians about the importance of only crossing the road in designated areas. Failure to follow these rules can result in serious injury or even death.
The fine for drivers who do not give way to pedestrians in designated areas is 500 dirhams, in addition to 6 black points on the permit. Pedestrians who attempt to cross the road illegally will be fined Dh400.
UAE authorities often issue reminders about traffic rules, explaining the potential dangers of breaking the law, as well as the fines and black points that could be imposed on residents.
