Dubai is set to host the 43rd edition of Gitex Global, the world’s largest technology and startup exhibition.
As in previous years, heavy traffic is expected around the Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC) precinct, as thousands of visitors are expected to attend the five-day event from October 16 to 20.
Here are some practical tips on how to get there and enjoy the exhibition of around 6,000 global companies, and “where the best and brightest minds come together to share what the future of technologies will be.”
Use the Metro
Taking the Dubai Metro without a driver is the best way to get to the DWTC, as one of its stations has direct access to the place.
The Metro is well connected to all means of land transportation: bus, taxi and private vehicles. Travelers can also bring their folding bicycles and electric scooters on board the cabins.
Those who drive are advised to abandon their vehicles and use the Metro. They can leave their cars in the parking areas at Centrepoint Metro Station, Etisalat Metro Station, Jebel Ali Metro Station or the multi-storey parking building near Max Station (formerly Al Jafiliya) in the Al Kifaf.
Take note: Dubai Metro has maintained a 99.7 percent punctuality rate and has surpassed international safety standards with its exceptional operational efficiency.
Don’t forget to buy or recharge your nol card in advance through the vending machines and in-person counters. Both cash and cards are accepted.
The Dubai Metro is open from Monday to Thursday from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. Friday, from 5 to 1 the next day; Saturday, from 5 a.m. to midnight; and Sunday, from 8 a.m. to midnight.
Take free shuttle buses
If you plan to drive your car, it is recommended that you park it at Dubai Mall Zabeel Extension and take the dedicated free buses to pick you up and drop you off at the Dubai Mall parking lot. These will take you to Dubai World Trade Center and back.
Motorists can also park their cars at the digital parking lots at Business Bay, Al Barsha Traffic Department and Burjuman Metro and reach Gitex in just 18 minutes by Metro. You can reserve a parking space in advance at digitalparking.city.
Travel by taxi
Thousands of taxis are available daily and there are ride-sharing apps, such as Careem and Uber, that make booking a taxi easy. One can also use another country’s Careem or Uber apps to book a ride in Dubai.
