Removing immigration to Dubai can now be done in the blink of an eye. Residents arriving and departing from Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport (DXB) can clear passport control in seconds using the upgraded smart gates, with facial recognition.
“There are now five updated smart gates available at DXB Terminal 3 that allow passengers to seamlessly complete immigration procedures using their optical and facial impression,” said an official from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai ( GDRFA) -Dubai said Khaleej Times on Tuesday during Gitex Global.
However, most contactless smart gates in Dubai airport terminals still require scanning of the passports of arriving and departing passengers.
How to use the new smart doors?
First, the resident must register with their passport or Emirates ID at DXB Terminal 3 to use the upgraded smart gates. And since GDRFA has a pavilion at Gitex Global that will be open until Friday (October 20), visitors can register at the GDRFA booth to take advantage of the innovative service for their next flight.

The process is quick and easy. Passengers only need to pass through the smart gate by simply looking at the green light (camera).
There is no need to scan any identification documents. Simply remove anything covering your face, including glasses, masks or hats, so the camera can clearly scan your facial and optical print.
However, have your passport or boarding pass handy, in case you need them.
Future plans
The GDRFA said facial recognition is currently available at five smart gates at DXB Terminal 3, but will soon be rolled out to Terminals 1 and 2.
