Travelers will undergo a streamlined process at check-in counters where their photos are captured and their facial features are scanned.
Smart technology is shaping Dubai’s future. Soon, your face will be your money; You travel in a flying taxi and pass through the smart doors of public transport. What is the next big innovation?
Dubai residents will be able to travel through the airport without passports, visas or any travel documents in the near future. This is according to integrated solutions provider Emaratech, which is at the Gitex technology exhibition that began on Monday in Dubai.
“When a traveler arrives at the airport, we will have their details in advance,”
saying Ahmed Bahaa, Product Manager for Seamless Check-in Service at Emaratech.
“We will have your flight and visa details in our system.”
At the check-in counter, travelers will undergo a simplified process in which their photos are captured and their facial features are scanned. They will be provided with your complete travel itinerary and information, and will be facilitated in checking in their luggage.
“Your photographs will be used throughout the entire travel experience.”
Ahmad said.
“When they arrive at immigration, instead of going to the counter, they will be able to go directly to the smart gate. Again, at the smart gate, they do not need to present any travel documents as their photograph and face ID are all the proofs required.”
Once they pass through the immigration counter, travelers can go to the duty-free, where their facial recognition and biometrics will verify their identity. The same will also apply at the boarding gate.
“As long as your security check is clear and there are no fines or problems with your visas, traveling will be a piece of cake for people flying from Dubai airport,”
he said.
Systems are being implemented
However, ahmed was unable to give a timeline for how soon these measures will be implemented.
“As of now, the smart gate is already installed for immigration at Dubai Airport.”
he said.
“However, we are still in discussions with Emirates airlines, Dubai Airport and immigration authorities for check-in and gate. “As you can imagine, this will require multiple agreements and a lot of checks and balances, so we are still working on it.”
ahmed He also clarified that Emaratech provides all the hardware and systems necessary to make this a reality.
“We have implemented all the integrations to make it a seamless experience for travelers.”
he said.
“Hopefully we’ll be able to see it installed in airports soon.”
In September, officials from Emirates The airline said that by the end of the year, the airline will be in a position to facilitate passengers’ check-in through their own identity to board the plane.
Dubai airports has been working on the project, using the latest biometric technology. The system is currently undergoing testing at Dubai International Airport.
Last year, the first phase of a similar biometric check-in system was rolled out at Abu Dhabi International Airport, where passengers could obtain a boarding pass and avail other services using their facial scan.
