Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure trains UAE’s future electric vehicle engineers

He Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has announced its collaboration with Dubai-based automotive events and motorsports agency pole position become the strategic partner of the UAE Greenpower STEM Education Program in which teams of students build an electric car and compete against other schools to determine who can build the most energy-efficient electric vehicle.

On March 20, students and teachers from GEMS Winchester School, who participate in the program, had the opportunity to visit the Ministry and talk about their experience with Greenpower Sharif Salim Al Olama, Undersecretary of Energy and Petroleum Affairs.

Students described the benefits of working in the Green energy programhow it has helped them increase their awareness of sustainability issues and their excitement for the upcoming race finals in May 2024.

Ministry representatives will attend the race finals to meet the students and reward the winning team. Launched in 2023 with support from the Greenpower Education Trust, the program involves 10 teams of students aged 11-16 from GEMS schools, promoting streamlined design and sustainability. The finals feature two 60-minute races, culminating with the presentation of awards. The Greenpower program educates students globally in science, engineering and teamwork through electric car building and racing, with a focus on encouraging female participation in engineering careers.

Al-Olamaemphasizing the importance of nurturing young innovators and sustainability advocates, praises the Green energy program as a means to empower youth to confront global challenges. By encouraging more schools to join, he plans to encourage innovative thinking among students.
