From check-in to baggage drop, passport control and boarding, passengers can do it all on their own with airport self-services.
A series of automated processes implemented at Sharjah International Airport make travel a breeze for passengers. From check-in to baggage drop, passport control and boarding, passengers can do it all on their own with airport self-services.
In a statement, an airport spokesperson told Khaleej Times that self-service is available to all Air Arabia passengers “regardless of whether they are residents or tourists.”
Is that how it works:
Check in
– Self-check-in kiosks are available at the airport. Passengers can go to a kiosk and scan their passport or enter their Passenger Name Record (PNR).
– Once your details are approved, your boarding pass and luggage tag will be printed.
Luggage deposit
Passengers can print their luggage tag while using the self-check-in kiosk. If you check in online, you can go to the ‘Tag and Fly’ kiosk to print your tag and then go to the baggage drop counter.
“In addition, before the passport control area, there is an automatic boarding pass validator to speed up the process,” added the airport spokesperson.
Passport control
This is done with smart doors.
– Passengers place their passport photo page on the electronic reader.
– Then they scan the barcode with the electronic reader.
– They enter through the smart door, stand in the designated area and look at the camera.
– Once all procedures are completed, the smart door will open automatically, allowing passengers to continue their journey.
Shipment
Passengers can go to the new electronic gates to board the plane.
Smart information desk
Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA) has launched a “smart information desk” that allows passengers and customers to virtually communicate with customer service staff at the airport.
“This initiative uses innovative technologies to provide passengers with greater flexibility in accessing airport services,” the spokesperson added.
According to the spokesperson, smart travel procedures have helped reduce travel times for passengers. “This has led to an increase in the number of passengers and flights served at the airport in a shorter period of time, making the overall travel experience more efficient.”
