President of the United Arab Emirates and King Abdullah of Jordan discuss deep-rooted ties after official reception ceremony in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi: The President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, today welcomed His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on a state visit to the United Arab Emirates.

King Abdulla’s procession was received at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi, with an official reception ceremony involving a cavalcade of riders mounted on Arabian horses in the palace courtyard.

Sheikh Mohamed then escorted King Abdullah to the stage, where the national anthems of the United Arab Emirates and Jordan were played, followed by a 21-gun salute in honor of his visit.

Prior to King Abdullah’s arrival at Qasr Al Watan, the UAE’s national aerobatic team, Al Fursan, took to the skies above the palace, forming a representation of the Jordanian flag.

Sheikh Mohamed wrote on his X account: “I had the pleasure of hosting King Abdullah II of Jordan to discuss the historic and deep-rooted ties between our nations. “Through a strong economic partnership and people-to-people engagement, the UAE and Jordan remain united in joint efforts to strengthen regional cooperation, development and stability.”

The two leaders exchanged several memoranda of understanding in their joint efforts to strengthen cooperation between the UAE and Jordan in various areas of development.

The reception was attended by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and President of the Presidential Court; Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Governor of Abu Dhabi; Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Governor of Abu Dhabi; Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior; Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Advisor for Special Affairs of the Presidential Court; Ali bin Hammad Al Shamsi, Secretary General of the Supreme National Security Council; Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the UAE; Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; Mohamed Hassan Al Suwaidi, Minister of Investments; Humaid Obaid Abu Shabas, President of the Supreme Audit Institution; and Sheikh Khalifa bin Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Accompanying King Abdullah during his visit is His Royal Highness Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, Crown Prince of Jordan.

The visiting delegation includes Dr. Bisher Al-Khasawneh, Prime Minister of Jordan; Ayman Al-Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates; Zeina Toukan, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation; Jafar Hassan, Director of Her Majesty’s Office; along with several ministers, senior officials and Nassar Al-Habashneh, Jordanian ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.

Sheikh Mohamed held talks with King Abdullah on the deep relations between the two countries. The two sides explored opportunities to strengthen strategic cooperation in a way that achieves the mutual interests and aspirations of their people for a flourishing future defined by progress and prosperity.

This took place during a meeting held today by Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi. His Highness warmly welcomed the King of Jordan and his accompanying delegation to his second home, the United Arab Emirates. His Highness wished him health, happiness, progress and prosperity for Jordan. His Highness also expressed confidence that His Majesty’s visit would boost bilateral relations and cooperation at all levels.

His Highness and the King of Jordan discussed cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, investment, industry, food security and other vital areas that serve the strategic priorities of both countries to achieve sustainable development and prosperity.

Situation in Gaza

They also addressed regional and international issues and developments, particularly efforts to respond to the worsening humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. In this regard, they emphasized the need for urgent international action to stop the terrible escalation and provide full protection to civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law. They also underlined the importance of ensuring the delivery of aid by allowing international humanitarian organizations to fulfill their duty and opening safe and sustainable humanitarian corridors.

The two leaders stressed the need to spare the region the consequences of a new spiral of violence and work to establish a clear political horizon for a just, comprehensive and sustainable peace that guarantees stability and security for all. They expressed their strong commitment to intensify collaboration to achieve peace in the region, building on the long-standing efforts of both countries to promote harmonious coexistence and regional collaboration for the benefit of all communities.

His Highness said that relations between the UAE and Jordan are historic and deep-rooted, stretching back to the era of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and King Hussein bin Talal. These relationships are based on trust, understanding and mutual respect. His Highness noted that King Abdullah II’s visit to the United Arab Emirates reflects the unique governmental and people-to-people ties between the two nations.

During the meeting, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan highlighted the shared vision of the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, emphasizing their collective pursuit of sustainable development for their people. He underlined the crucial role of enhancing peace, stability and prosperity throughout the region, illustrating the harmonious values ​​and objectives that unite the two nations.

His Highness and His Majesty King Abdullah II underlined their commitment to strengthening the strong relations between the two countries, with the aim of achieving greater progress in the coming period. They highlighted that the wide range of cooperative projects announced during the visit marks significant progress in the ambitious development partnership between the UAE and Jordan, which promises prosperity and growth for both nations.

His Majesty King Abdullah II expressed his gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for its continued support to Jordan and conveyed his eagerness to build on the well-established ties between the two nations and further expand cooperation.

Furthermore, he underlined the critical importance of lifting the blockade on the Gaza Strip, highlighting the urgent need to address the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza. Her Majesty praised the efforts of the United Arab Emirates in this regard and highlighted her proactive role in the UN Security Council to end the conflict in Gaza.

Agreements for 6,000 million dollars

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein witnessed the exchange of memorandums of understanding worth $6 billion between the UAE and Jordan, aiming to enhance cooperation to achieve sustainable development and prosperity in both countries.

These included a memorandum of understanding in the field of investment, a memorandum between Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company (ADQ) and the Jordan Investment Fund, and a memorandum relating to a grant from the UAE Government to finance development projects in Jordan.

The memoranda were exchanged on behalf of the United Arab Emirates by Mohamed Hassan Al Suwaidi, Minister of Investment, and on behalf of Jordan by Zeina Toukan, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation.

His Majesty the King of Jordan wrote a message in the guest book, emphasizing the strength of the relations that unite the two countries and expressing the mutual desire to consolidate these ties. She also expressed her wishes to the UAE to continue moving forward.

His Highness hosted a luncheon in honor of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the accompanying delegation.
