Have you ever come across an ad on social media that seemed too good to be true? You may have been the target of an online scam.

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has shared the story of a man who was the victim of a fake concert ticket advertisement.

The man found an ad on social media advertising tickets to his favorite singer’s concert at very low prices. Excited by the deal offered, he approached the account that published the promotion and ordered the tickets.

The people he contacted knew everything about the concert and gained the man’s trust by answering his questions. They then asked him to transfer the money to a specific account number and sent him his tickets electronically.

The man was surprised when he arrived at the concert with his friends. The organizers told him that his tickets were fake and had not been issued by official sources.

Realizing that he had been the victim of a scam, he had no choice but to turn back. She later discovered that he wasn’t the only one fooled by the ad.

The victims of the scam together filed a complaint with the relevant authorities, who took immediate action and investigated the case. Upon finding the people running the fraudulent accounts, authorities arrested them and referred them to court, where they were convicted of their crimes.

Scam on the rise

Previously, the ADJD issued a warning about fake ads on social media selling event tickets at prices apparently too good to be true.

These fraudulent cases have gained traction in recent months, with scammers luring unsuspecting customers with tickets at a very low price, only to disappear once they have racked up a sufficient number of sales.

UAE authorities urge people to exercise caution and vigilance when purchasing event tickets from unreliable sources. Scams have become increasingly sophisticated and can seem convincing at first glance. However, UAE authorities warn that these offers are almost always too good to be true and often serve as a front for unscrupulous activities.
