Dubai Police’s rapid response times and use of cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have recently been inspected by Pilot Major General Ahmad Mohammed bin Thani, Deputy Commander of Port Affairs.

Bin Thani reviewed last year’s statistic in which Dubai Police security patrols reached emergency locations in an impressive 2 minutes and 32 seconds, surpassing their target of three minutes. Emergency 999 calls had a 99.7 per cent response rate within 10 seconds, exceeding the 97 per cent target, with a total of 7.4 million calls.

Bin Thani also examined the latest advances in artificial intelligence, including the “Virtual Operations Room” smart glasses, a virtual reality application that trains staff by displaying various control room screens, including incident management systems, maps of Dubai and connected cameras.

Additionally, Bin Thani was briefed on the Portable Wireless Operations Toolkit, which consolidates vital software for incident reporting, patrol monitoring and seamless communication with the operations room. He also inspected the state-of-the-art mobile operations vehicle, designed for external event coverage and integrated with specialized applications and equipment.

Additionally, Bin Thani was briefed on innovative projects within the General Operations Department, which has acquired 22 intellectual properties (IP). It includes an advanced course in drone operation and a call center evaluation program.

Bin Thani heard an explanation about the initiatives and projects the Department completed last year. These included the Drone Systems Center project, the Smart Alert Reporting initiative, the “Joker” initiative and the Women’s Empowerment Team.

Bin Thani also reviewed the achievements of the General Operations Department over the past year. These include obtaining the first accreditation for the use of drones beyond the line of sight by the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, pioneering the Drone Box project, being recognized as the entity that best supports innovation at the Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief Awards. , and being the best entity in strategic objective at the Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief Awards.

The Department also expanded its membership in the European Emergency Number Association (EENA) and pioneered electronic calling as a third-party service in the country.
