The President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, discussed the current crisis in Gaza on Thursday, highlighting the need for an immediate ceasefire.
During the meeting held at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi, the two Arab leaders exchanged views on developments in the Middle East and efforts to reduce tensions in the Gaza Strip.
They agreed that protecting civilians should be a top priority and that a ceasefire must be achieved without delay to bring humanitarian aid to Palestinians trapped in the war.
The Emir of Qatar underlined the critical need to work to stop the spread of violence to avoid new humanitarian crises in the region and establish a clear political horizon to ensure a just, lasting and comprehensive peace.
In addition to the discussion on the Gaza crisis, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad explored bilateral relations and ways to boost cooperation. They also reviewed ways to improve joint Gulf action in a way that serves the interests of the people of the GCC states.
At the same meeting, Sheikh Mohammed conferred the Order of the Union on Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Head of the Emiri Diwan, in recognition of his efforts to improve relations between the UAE and Qatar.
The President also hosted a dinner in honor of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his delegation. Several high-ranking officials from both countries were present at the meeting.
