Etihad Airways will hire around 1,000 people year on year over the next seven years.
This was revealed on Day 2 of the Dubai Airshow by Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, who shed light on domestic career expansion plans in the near future.
Talking about how the sector is recovering post-Covid and the airline is even considering new hires, he said: “We are going to hire between 800 and 1,000 people every year for the next seven years. The plan is to double the size of the fleet in the next seven years. “We believe this will create a lot of value for the company.”
“The industry is in good shape and I am very happy to see how it has recovered from Covid. The fact is that in many regions of the world we are flying at or above Covid levels, which is simply remarkable. “We love to serve and we love to provide great customer experiences.”
10 new destinations next year
Meanwhile, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, which marks 20 years of flying by participating in the Airshow this week, is also displaying its new Boeing 787-9, which is one of four new Dreamliners joining the fleet , after the arrival of a new 787 – October 10.

The new aircraft will boost Etihad’s growth plans, as the airline has added 12 new destinations this year and its expansion plan assumes 10 percent year-on-year growth.
In the coming months, the airline plans to begin operations on new routes in India, in addition to Boston and Nairobi.
The airline, which has grown 35 percent this year, has recently expanded its operations in multiple markets, with additional flight frequencies and improved connectivity across the network.
“This year we added 12 new destinations, next year we will add 10 new destinations.”
Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways.
‘I need the planes’
Shedding light on the challenges that the aviation industry and the airline in particular are experiencing, he said: “Any airline that is willing to grow 10 percent annually has many challenges. It is a huge task. But this is not our biggest challenge because we have great execution capabilities.”
“I think the biggest challenge we have as an industry is on the supply chain side. The planes arrive late. Everyone knows about that. The supply of airplanes on the market at the moment is not that good because we have some problems with the engines. Although we don’t have that problem.
“It is increasingly difficult to find airplanes. “This has a consequence on the entire supply chain… of seats, spare parts, among others.”
“How can I address the supply chain problem that we have in the world and that is going to last another two or three years… because there is a lot of demand for airplanes? I need the planes. “I would love to fly this plane (referring to the new Boeing 787-900) but it is not delivered yet,” he added.
Airline ventures into new terminal
Speaking about Abu Dhabi’s next-level aviation hub, the Midfield Terminal, which is already transitioning around 28 airlines, Neves said: “We are moving most of the operation to the new terminal. This is going very well. It is, from my point of view, one of the best terminals in the world. We could not fulfill our growth plan without that terminal. “We are going to transport 17 million passengers next year and 33 million passengers in the next seven years.”
Spanning three floors between Piers C and D of the new terminal on the north side, there is an Etihad First Class and Business Class Lounge, offering travelers a host of premium amenities to optimize their pre-flight experience. .
“So, we are going to occupy two-thirds or a little more than 70 percent of the terminal capacity. It is crucial for us and we need it. “It is the perfect moment,” added Neves.
