Dubai: A taxi for your luggage? Company helps tourists explore the city without bags – News

Dubai, over the years, has become a magnet for millions of leisure and business visitors. Many travelers land during the early hours of the morning, with plenty of time to waste before checking into hotels. When they start exploring the city without wasting time, they end up carrying their suitcases. So Dubai resident Tristan Sommer-Enriquez came up with a solution for them: an on-demand baggage claim platform powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
Talking about the ‘Luggage Taxi’, the German-American said: “As a business traveler, whenever I was in big metropolitan cities, I had to carry my luggage everywhere. If I had meetings and left the hotel early, while my “It was at night and I had to go back to the hotel or carry the luggage. That was my life for the last 15 or 20 years as a frequent traveler.”
Tristan continued: “Some customers asked us where they could store their luggage. That gave us an idea. Then we did some research and realized it would be great if our luggage could be picked up with the push of a button, stored, and then returned.”
Referring to the platform as “Uber for luggage,” Tristan said it will also help travelers save money. “For example, if you are staying in a hotel in Dubai with your family and you have a flight at 1 in the morning; What are your options? You pay more to get a room extension and if it’s peak season, you may not get it.
“Suppose a family plans to go shopping at a mall and then wants to go directly to the airport; they are stuck with their luggage. ‘Baggage Taxi’ can deliver their bags to the airport, at the desired time, before the flight while they “Do shopping or exploring the city. They don’t have to return to their hotel and then take a taxi to the airport, which could cost them more. So, with Baggage Taxi, they save time,” explained Tristan, who moved to Dubai in 2014.

How much does it cost
The service costs Dh99 for the first suitcase and an additional Dh35 for each additional piece of luggage. The Luggage Taxi rate covers collection, storage and delivery.
According to Tristan, the service is mainly used by tourists from Canada, the United States, Germany, Great Britain, Portugal, Italy, India, Pakistan, Korea, China and Australia.
“Our clients are usually those who arrive in the morning and check in at (the hotels) at 3:00 p.m. That’s why we pick up their suitcases at the airport, while they go to their meetings. They often choose the service “There are no business meetings, so they don’t want to mingle while browsing or shopping. We collect your luggage in the morning and deliver it to any airport or hotel in the UAE,” he added.
The company currently offers services through its website and will launch its app later this month.
