Traveling by eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) to Ras Al Khaimah hotels for a staycation could soon be an option for the ultra-rich.

This also aligns with the emirate’s vision of making Al Marjan Island a cherished destination for tourists and investors alike, while many prefer the destination for leisure and luxury.

This innovative mode of transport could, in turn, offer an alternative to avoid road congestion, allowing guests to significantly reduce travel time by choosing a compact, electric, quieter and smarter vehicle.

Ralf Schustereder, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Airport at the Dubai Airshow on Thursday, said: “I think we have an opportunity right now when we look at the Wynn Resorts development and all this development in the Marjan Islands. This will attract a specific type of clientele or VVIPs entering the market. This is again an opportunity for us to enter the market from RAK. “We have a very big demand that comes through Dubai airport with the network they offer, and from there people come to Ras Al Khaimah.”

He continued: “If we look at the profile of these potential customers in the future, I am sure that they will not look for traffic jams or car or limousine services in RAK to the tourist area. They want to have a different experience because entering the UAE means “the first experience I have”. So, it is (the option) for Dubai Airport to convert to Air Mobility and then enter the resort. That’s an element. We see general aviation reach increasing dramatically even more than normal commercial traffic on our site. This means we need to build general aviation facilities in the long to medium term.”

VPorts, a leader in the design, construction and operation of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) infrastructure, previously announced a joint agreement that will establish a vertiport at Ras Al Khaimah Airport (RAK).

“Six months ago I signed an MoU with VPorts. VPorts has now announced that it will be making a major investment in Dubai South to build its first Vertiport and I look forward to continuing discussions with us as well,” Schustereder added.

Land of 10,000 square meters

The RAK vertiport, which will be installed on a 10,000 square meter plot of land, will be designed for all types of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

This aims to not only enable RAK’s economic and tourism growth, but also accelerate the adoption and deployment of advanced air mobility throughout the UAE.

“The most important part is finding the right terrain to allocate your mobility to, because we still have commercial traffic coming in and out, which means the airspace has to be structured appropriately with regulatory bodies.

“The second is to ensure that when it comes to recharging the battery of air mobility or Air Taxis, the electrical supply is powerful enough to deal with these elements. But with this we are already settled. So, from our engineering team, we have the green light to explore,” he continued.
