The best international runners will lead the fifth edition of the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon, which over the years has seen massive participation from community members.
About 23,000 runners are expected to participate in various distances, including the 42.195 kilometer marathon, marathon relay, 10 kilometer, 5 kilometer and 2.5 kilometer races, which will be held on December 16.
The men’s race will feature the likes of Andrew Kwemoi of Uganda, winner of the 2023 Milan Marathon, and Kiptum Barnabas of Kenya, who finished first in both the 2019 Hong Kong Marathon and the Buenos Aires Marathon in 2017. The race Women’s will include Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia. , Olympic 10km champion, winner of the 2017 Chicago Marathon, and Kenya’s Maurine Chepkemoi, winner of the 2022 Enschede Marathon, among other star-studded names.
Suhail Al Arifi, executive director of the events sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said the participation of world-class international runners highlights the importance of the event locally and globally.
“The presence of renowned runners in this year’s program reaffirms the success of Abu Dhabi and the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon in gaining international recognition in long-distance running.”

The event is open to the entire community, including families and children, and applicants can register for the following distances: marathon, marathon relay (teams of 2), 10km, 5km and 2.5km.
Registration is free for people of determination and participants of the Paralympic Games.
“We are delighted to invite people from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds to join us in celebrating fitness. Regardless of your fitness level, there is a distance designed just for you. We encourage everyone to be part of this enriching sports day on the streets of Abu Dhabi, the sports capital of the world,” said Al Arifi.
All races will start at different locations near the ADNOC headquarters on Corniche Road and finish at the ADNOC campus near the Bainuna public park, which is also a designated area for warming up and enjoying refreshments.
This year’s Marathon Village, located at Adnoc headquarters, will be accessible from December 12 to 16 (3 p.m. to 10 p.m.). The free-entry village will provide an immersive experience for visitors, with entertainment and a wide range of dining options.
All runners will receive an exclusive Nike technical race t-shirt made from sustainable materials. Participants can personalize their shirts by adding their names online or during town hours. Participants who register for the race after November 30 will be able to pick up their race packets at Marathon Village between December 12 and 15.
