Global aviation leaders unite in Dubai for third aviation and alternative fuels conference

International aviation leaders have emphasized the urgent need to address the challenges of climate change, highlighting the sector’s concerted efforts towards sustainable solutions.
During the Third ICAO Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels (CAAF/3) held in Dubai from November 20 to 24, aviation officials stressed the critical importance of aligning with global developments, particularly those related to climate change. They underlined that the civil aviation sector is actively seeking sustainable solutions, with a strong focus on the transition to alternative aviation fuels.
Recognizing their environmental responsibility, they committed to working closely with various environmental organizations to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
Fred Bamwesigye, Director General of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, reaffirmed the authority’s unwavering commitment to supporting global climate change mitigation efforts, aligning with national plans to strengthen the sector’s sustainability initiatives. He highlighted the crucial role of environmental considerations in aviation sector operations and highlighted the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority’s extensive collaboration with environmental entities to promote sustainable development practices. Bamwesigye acknowledged ICAO’s unwavering support for the global environmental movement and praised the organization’s critical role in mitigating the impacts of climate change through the aviation sector.
Marina Köster, Deputy Director General of Civil Aviation at the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, underlined the importance of the conference in shaping the future of sustainable aviation.
He highlighted the need to proactively explore the possible scenarios and changes that the sector may face due to its continued growth.
Koster emphasized the critical role of ICAO and the United Nations in demonstrating the aviation sector’s ability to effectively address the challenges of climate change at the upcoming COP28 conference.
He noted the importance of keeping up with global challenges, including climate change, and actively supporting related international efforts. He recognized ICAO and its member states for their ongoing green aviation initiatives, spanning technology, operations and aircraft advancements.
Koster concluded by highlighting ICAO’s actions at the conference as a testament to the sector’s unwavering commitment to envisioning a sustainable future for aviation by proactively identifying and addressing challenges and opportunities.
