Iconic Dubai Water Canal waterfall gets a makeover

Dubai Roads and Transportation Authority (RTA) has carried out comprehensive maintenance work on the Water Canal Bridge Waterfall on Sheikh Zayed Road. This project lasted over two months and focused on security.

The main maintenance tasks exceeded 600 hours of work and included the disassembly and subsequent reinstallation of the exterior aluminum of the waterfall after its rehabilitation. The works also included replacing the previous stainless steel water pipes with polyethylene pipes to improve sustainability, and replacing the waterfall’s outdated stainless steel structure with a new one. Additionally, a floating platform was installed during the maintenance phase to improve access and mobility and ensure safety on site for all people.

The comprehensive rehabilitation of the Dubai Water Canal waterfall is part of RTAYour structured approach to maintaining your assets and facilities, boosting their sustainability and extending their useful lives. The waterfall maintenance process has five periodic phases: daily, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual maintenance. Annual maintenance includes thermal imaging and ultrasonic testing of lighting distribution panels and maintenance of electrical distribution panels, as well as thermal imaging and ultrasonic testing of control panels, among other major tasks.

This canal is considered a tourist attraction and a focal point for various segments of the community. The waterfall stops automatically when boats pass under it, thanks to motion sensors, adding to the beauty of the place.

The Dubai Water Canal is among the most exceptional projects undertaken by RTA, known for its aesthetic appeal and distinctive project. The water canal links Business Bay with the Arabian Gulf, passing through Al Safa Park, Jumeirah II and Jumeirah Road until reaching Jumeirah Beach.
