Abu Dhabi on Friday launched an innovative initiative to achieve intelligent and autonomous mobility by air, land and sea.

The long-awaited announcement by the Intelligent and Autonomous Vehicle Industries (Savi) group was made in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

This comes after Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, on Wednesday backed a plan to establish a world-leading Savi Group in Abu Dhabi.

The innovative, first-of-its-kind multimodal cluster will lead to the development of intelligent and autonomous vehicles in three modes of transport: air, water and sea. It will contribute up to Dh120 billion and generate nearly 50,000 jobs, a senior official said during the launch ceremony held in Masdar City.

“Abu Dhabi is uniquely positioned to lead the advancement of technology and commercialization within the intelligent and autonomous vehicle sector. Backed by a proven track record of accelerated innovation and built on a strong industrial foundation, the emirate embraces and shapes global trends, empowering the sector by leveraging its infrastructure, talent, progressive regulatory mindset and key location at the crossroads of global trade. ”said Ahmed Jasim Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED).

Al Zaabi noted that as a catalyst for Abu Dhabi’s diversification, Savi is a “game changer” that will unleash extraordinary economic growth and create new opportunities for talents, entrepreneurs and investors.

“Savi is expected to contribute between Dh90 billion and Dh120 billion to the UAE economy and generate between 30,000 and 50,000 jobs, creating a widespread ripple effect that will benefit various sectors and take our Falcon economy smart, diversified and sustainable to new heights.

ADDED and Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) are leading the development of Savi which covers the design, testing and manufacturing of applications for transport and mobility, as well as serving other sectors such as logistics. Savi, based in Masdar City, will leverage the strength of Abu Dhabi’s industrial base and leverage its unrivaled access to established air corridors, road infrastructure and global partner network.

The cluster brings together all relevant stakeholders to advance value chain development, attract businesses from around the world, enable access to finance and investments, facilitate and finance innovation, optimize regulatory services and accelerate adoption of future urban and mobility services.
