Smugglers attempted to smuggle 10kg of illegal drugs into the UAE, but inspectors from Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority foiled the plan and confiscated narcotics at Khalid Port.
During a routine inspection with a radiological device, Port Khalid customs officials discovered a suspicious bag in a container. Manual examination revealed that the bag contained ten rolls of narcotics, with a total weight of 10,046 kilograms.
The confiscated narcotics have been turned over to the relevant authorities for further legal action. The Authority highlighted its continued commitment to utilize its resources and intensify efforts to thwart smuggling attempts, especially drug trafficking, at all customs ports in Sharjah.
He added that he will spare no effort to ensure the security of society and contribute positively to the prosperity of the national economy.
Earlier, Dubai Customs detained a passenger who was trying to smuggle 8.9kg of marijuana through Dubai International Airport. After officers manually searched the passenger’s luggage, they found powder that the defendant claimed was crushed henna leaves.
