UAE and Russian president discuss bilateral relations, regional and international issues

President Putin congratulated His Highness on the 52nd Union Day and expressed his wishes for continued progress and prosperity in the UAE, Wam reported on Wednesday.

The two sides also exchanged views on various issues of mutual interest, focusing on developments in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. They stressed the need for international action to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, protect civilians and ensure the safe, unimpeded and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid. In this context, both sides stressed the importance of working towards a clear horizon for a lasting and comprehensive peace in the region based on the two-State solution.

The meeting also addressed recent developments in the Ukraine crisis. His Highness emphasized that the United Arab Emirates is committed to resolving conflicts around the world through diplomacy and dialogue. This commitment is in line with the UAE’s stated policy of promoting regional and global peace, cooperation and stability to enhance international peace and security.

The meeting addressed the current United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) being held at Expo City Dubai. The Russian president expressed his hopes that the conference will produce results that contribute to finding constructive solutions to climate challenges and improving international climate action for the benefit of all humanity.

His Highness also affirmed the UAE’s commitment to building bridges of cooperation with various countries in an effort to support initiatives that promote global stability and prosperity for all.

The Russian president praised the role of the United Arab Emirates on the international stage, particularly through its membership in the UN Security Council, as well as its efforts to help foster global stability.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and President of the Presidential Court; Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Governor of Abu Dhabi; Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior; Sheikh Hamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and several other senior officials.

The meeting was also attended by the delegation accompanying the Russian president, made up of several ministers and senior officials.

Earlier on Wednesday, His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed received the Russian President upon his arrival on an official visit to Abu Dhabi. Official reception ceremonies were held at the Qasr Al Watan Palace in Abu Dhabi.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed accompanied Vladimir Putin, inspected the guard of honor and witnessed the performances of the national anthems of the Russian Federation and the United Arab Emirates. The official reception ceremony also included a 21-gun artillery salute in honor of the visit and a flyby by the UAE Air Force’s aerobatic team, Al Fursan, leaving a trail of smoke in the colors of the Russian flag . UAE Air Force aircraft escorted the plane carrying the Russian president as it entered UAE airspace.
