The UAE History Encyclopedia project was launched in Abu Dhabi on Thursday at a ceremony attended by prominent cultural and academic figures who will contribute to the encyclopedia.
On the occasion, Abdullah Majed Al Ali, Director General of the National Library and Archives, said that the UAE History Encyclopedia project would include a wide spectrum of topics on the history and heritage of the UAE, and its cultural achievements. and civilization.
He added: “The National Library and Archives is proud to offer treasures of historical records and documents on the history of the Gulf region in general, and the United Arab Emirates in particular. The encyclopedia is quite distinguished from all others by virtue of its authentic and documented historical information that provides various users with easy access to the glorious history of the UAE that the founding father of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, considered the real and essential gateway to understanding the present and perceiving the future.”
Al Ali thanked the scientific committees and teams responsible for writing and supervising the compilation of the encyclopedia. Renowned, qualified and experienced researchers, academics and intellectuals have contributed to the project.
He noted that the encyclopedia of UAE history will play a vital role in the civic education and national formation of future generations.
Al Ali also reviewed the achievements of the workshops recently organized by the National Library and Archives in terms of the historical methodology and thematic arrangement of the encyclopedia, the historical eras represented in chronological sequence, the stages of the work plan and the expected result, as well as the projections of the encyclopedia. objective and aspired function of preserving the memory of the nation for future generations.
The Encyclopedia of UAE History will initially be published in digital format and will consist of seven sections focusing on the geography, location, area, natural resources, physical features and much more of the UAE.
The encyclopedia is overseen by an advisory body that includes members from different emirates of the United Arab Emirates.
According to the work plan developed by the project, the encyclopedia is expected to be completed within five years.
The UAE History Encyclopedia encompasses the “Memory of the Nation”, which the National Library and Archives enthusiastically collect to safeguard, preserve and offer to researchers and future generations.
