Dubai Globe Soccer Awards 2023: Ronaldo and Messi dominate voting for Best Player award – News

Soccer fans around the world have cast a record 27 million votes to decide the final rosters for next month’s Dubai Globe Soccer Awards 2023, which will be held at Atlantis, The Palm, on January 19, 2024, and They will be organized in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council and presented by Nakheel.

The first round of public voting closed last Thursday with organizers confirming that old rivalries in the Middle East will be reignited. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi dominated voting for Best Player, along with the likes of Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Real Madrid sensation Jude Bellingham, who is up for a record four awards, including Best Midfielder and Power Horse Emerging Player.

Ronaldo, 38, of Al Nassr, led the voting in all three categories in which he was nominated, including Fans’ Favorite Player, where he faces competition in a shortlist of five consisting of Messi, Bellingham, Al Hilal star Neymar and Liverpool talisman. Mohamed Salah.

Koller has been shortlisted for Best Coach alongside the likes of Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti, Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Napoli’s Serie A winning coach Luciano Spalletti. The three coaches’ respective clubs, as well as Copa Libertadores champions Fluminense of Brazil, are each among the 10 nominations for Best Men’s Club.

Aitana Bonmatí leads the women’s category

Meanwhile, the Best Player award will pit the Spanish Aitana Bonmatí, world champion, against, among others, the Nigerian Asisat Oshoala and the Colombian Linda Caicedo, as well as a trio of stars from the Women’s Super League: Mary Earps (Manchester United), Amanda Ilestedt (Arsenal), and Sam Kerr (Chelsea). Bonmatí’s Barcelona also competes for Best Women’s Club along with Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Roma. Moroccan Yassine Bounou, who represents Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal, features in a shortlist of six that also includes Manchester City’s Ederson and Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois for Best Goalkeeper.

Two new Italy-focused categories, Best Serie A Digital Content by a Player and Best Serie A Digital Content by a Club, have also been introduced as part of an exciting new partnership between Globe Soccer and the Italian top flight.

The Best Agent award also returns, with Ali Barat, Jorge Mendes and Frank Trimboli among this year’s shortlist of three finalists. The Official Globe Soccer Jury will decide the winner, along with the Best Sports Director and the Best President.
