UAE plays important role in driving net zero efforts in region

Ilaria Catastini, CEO of Evolve – Maire Tecnimont Foundation, highlighted that the UAE plays a key role in promoting climate neutrality goals in the Middle East and North Africa region.
In a statement, he said the UAE is at the forefront of the global energy transition, especially in terms of training and development of human resources to achieve climate neutrality.
He pointed out that, apart from the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), the Foundation launched a study that demonstrated the need for large investments in skills and capacity development to accelerate the energy transition. The International Energy Agency expects 14 million clean energy job opportunities to be created worldwide by 2030, requiring upskilling millions of employees.
He said that education and training were important topics on the COP28 agenda from the beginning and that there is consensus on the need to make a global effort in the field of education and training to achieve shared climate action goals.
Catastini He called for strategic investment in vocational and craft training, in line with the goals of a carbon-free economy, noting that the UAE is qualified to lead in this field.
He highlighted the urgent need to provide new skills comprehensively and immediately, and lay the foundations to prepare a workforce capable of leading the global energy transition, fostering cooperation with universities to facilitate knowledge exchange and improve educational standards.
