Dubai Municipality concluded its participation in COP28 after signing more than seven agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoU), as well as making sustainable commitments to enhance Dubai’s contribution to global climate action.
Dubai Municipality was a Strategic partner at COP28, which attracted tens of thousands of participants from 198 countries to Expo City Dubai. During the event, the municipality launched more than 10 strategic projects and showcased others to the global audience.
The municipality’s sustainable pavilion, created in part through 3D printing, attracted more than 20,000 visitors. The municipality also organized and participated in more than 50 sessions and workshops.
Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, saying,
“Dubai Municipality’s participation in COP28 presented Dubai and the UAE’s leading models for international climate cooperation, urban planning, development and sustainability.
“The UAE has hosted a successful climate event, which was based on the principle of partnerships, sharing experiences and achieving consensus on crucial climate commitments, including tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030.”
“Dubai Municipality, building on its vision of becoming a leading global municipality, will leverage its efforts at COP28 to achieve net zero operations. This will include the expansion of projects announced during the event to contribute to the goals of the UAE’s Net Zero strategic initiative by 2050, as well as Dubai’s Urban Master Plan 2040. “Our work will help strengthen Dubai’s global model of sustainable, liveable, beautiful and pioneering cities.”
The projects Dubai Municipality announced in COP28 They cover net zero operations, digital twins, sustainable buildings and infrastructure, recycling, waste management, smart technology and renewable energy. They included expanding nature reserves, developing a green building rating system, implementing zero waste initiatives and reusing wastewater.

Building strategic awareness
During the two weeks of COP28, the municipality carried out a site inspection tour at Expo City Dubai to ensure full compliance with environmental safety and sustainability standards. More than 80 inspections were carried out to ensure safety and health before, during and after the installation and dismantling of pavilions and buildings. In addition, more than 1,000 inspections were carried out to ensure compliance with requirements and standards by food and beverage suppliers.
