Abu Dhabi welcomed the New Year on Monday with a spectacular, record-breaking fireworks and drone display at the Sheikh Zayed Festival.
The festivities began with an astonishing 30-minute drone show featuring an impressive 5,000 unmanned aerial vehicles, followed by a stunning 40-minute fireworks show that left visitors in awe.
Crowds of residents from across the UAE flocked to the Festival to take part in the New Year celebrations. The excitement was palpable as people arrived well before the scheduled 4pm opening time on Monday. The overwhelming response was such that the authorities had to close the doors more than an hour before the start of the festivities because the maximum capacity was reached.
Khadjia Ahmed, a citizen of Bangladesh, expressed her joy and said, “It was an amazing fireworks show. I have never seen fireworks that last so long. I just loved it. This is the best fireworks show I have ever seen.” Ahmed even recorded a 28-minute fireworks video, but her mobile phone ran out of space due to the long duration of the fascinating spectacle.
Even before reaching full capacity, the venue was abuzz with excitement as visitors queued up at various food and beverage outlets, ticket counters, gaming stations and other entertainment venues. The overwhelming response underlined the success of the event and the community’s enthusiasm to come together and celebrate the arrival of the New Year at the Sheikh Zayed Festival.
