Having made a significant impact with its launch at Hotel voco in 2022, Avatara opened the doors of its sophisticated new establishment in Dubai Hills late last year. Headed by Chef Rahul Rana, the restaurant is the world’s first and only Michelin-starred vegetarian Indian restaurant, inviting customers to enjoy an unmatched dining experience with exquisite vegetarian cuisine.
Where each dish tells a story
Located in the heart of Dubai, Avatara is a testament to the art and innovation of fine vegetarian dining. Led by the visionary chef, Avatara’s culinary team seems to have mastered the delicate balance of combining ancient wisdom with contemporary flavors, where each dish tells a story.
The term ‘Avatara’ can be broadly translated as ‘incarnation’ or ‘incarnation’ and, in the context of the restaurant, suggests a connection with the idea of a unique and special manifestation in the culinary world.
From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere transports you to a serene retreat, a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The all-green, pastel décor is elegantly minimalist, allowing attention to focus on the star of the show: the exquisite vegetarian cuisine.
A crash course on India’s diverse culinary scene
Dining at Avatara is not just a curated food tasting journey, but a deeply enriching educational experience on India’s rich culinary diversity and history, encapsulating flavors from different corners of the Indian subcontinent. From Uttarakhand horse curry to South Indian roasted ghee and everything in between, the dishes retain the raw and original flavors of the ingredients, allowing for an authentic, sensorial dining experience that brings you closer to the source.
A journey of flavors that dance on your palate, the menu comprises a symphony of colors and textures, which is not only a feast for the taste buds but a holistic experience that nourishes the soul. Attention to detail is evident in every dish, demonstrating the chef’s dedication to creating a harmonious dining experience.
Chakra Infused Menu
The 16-course culinary odyssey takes you on a journey through the Chakras, with each dish carefully designed to resonate and restore balance to these vital energy centers. Whether you are drawn to the foundational influence of the Muladhara Chakra or the elevated experience of the Sahasrara Chakra, Avatara’s menu has something extraordinary for every palate.
The service is impeccable, with knowledgeable and attentive staff that enhances the overall dining experience. The staff’s passion for cooking and their willingness to guide diners through the menu adds a personal touch that elevates the entire meal. From the origins of the ingredients to the best way to consume the dish, the staff will accompany you throughout the culinary journey.
Creativity at its finest
Each dish is meticulously prepared and served as soon as the previous meal is over, with round-the-clock service. If diners want a break between courses, they can let the staff know one dish early. Few dishes that stand out are okra chili thecha, corn and tomato shorba, raw banana chaat, roasted ghee karela, achari broccolini and horsegram curry paired with ragi bhatura.
What is particularly interesting is that all the dishes are prepared without onion or garlic and no paneer (Indian curd) or mushrooms are used in any of the dishes as those are the most common vegetarian food options in most restaurants vegetarians. Looks like the chef was definitely up for a challenge!
Avatara is not just a restaurant; is a culinary sanctuary for those seeking a unique and unforgettable vegetarian dining experience. Whether you are a devout vegetarian or a curious food enthusiast, Avatara is a must-visit destination.
