Giuseppe Saba, CEO of IHC, said: “We are proactively supporting the international humanitarian community to respond to the ongoing humanitarian emergency and alleviate suffering in Gaza. The mission of Dubai International Humanitarian City resonates deeply with its dedication to saving lives by meeting urgent medical needs in coordination with the World Health Organization. “Together with our partners, we remain dedicated to supporting the most vulnerable around the world, aligning with the efforts of Dubai and the United Arab Emirates to fulfill our humanitarian duties.”
The Gaza-bound airlift is the first in a series of such missions this year, with three or four additional missions scheduled to deliver desperately needed aid to the people of Gaza. The shipment includes essential supplies, such as non-communicable disease kits and medications, so strict compliance with temperature checks is required during transport. IHC and its partners meticulously oversee the logistics of the operation to ensure the safe and timely delivery of aid to those who need it.
Dr Hanan Balkhy, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, said the WHO logistics centre, hosted at IHC, provides a lifeline to countries affected by health emergencies across the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region and beyond. “As the health crisis in the Gaza Strip develops and hostilities in Rafah increase, these medicines are essential for people whose access to health care has been severely restricted due to the shortages facing the health system in as a whole,” said Dr. Balkhy.
“WHO appreciates the support of Dubai International Humanitarian City, the Government of Dubai and the Government of the United Arab Emirates in delivering life-saving supplies to the world’s most vulnerable populations in their time of greatest need,” added Dr Balkhy. .
Last year, IHC acted quickly to establish an airlift to facilitate urgent relief supplies to populations affected by the escalating crisis in Gaza. It facilitated six airdrops in ten days, leveraging its vast network and resources to boost humanitarian efforts and ensure a rapid response to the crisis, reaffirming its position as a leading humanitarian hub in the region.
