Dubai: Customs seize 26.45 kg of marijuana hidden in red onion shipments – News

Dubai Customs seized 26.45kg of marijuana disguised as shipments of red onion, the authority said on Wednesday.

The authority carried out a thorough check on two different air shipments that arrived from an African country and recovered 14.85 kg and 11.6 kg respectively.

The authority said officials became suspicious since the arrival of the initial air cargo in Dubai. The bags in the shipment contained bags labeled “red onions.”

A thorough examination using x-ray detection devices revealed variable densities in the images, leading to the discovery of 14.85 kg of marijuana.

Several hours later another shipment arrived from the same African country, describing similar products (bags of red onion), but with different exporter names. He underwent an examination and revealed 11.6 kg of marijuana after an X-ray inspection.

The handling and documentation of the shipments and seized substances was carried out in collaboration with Dubai Police.
